The Utility Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily operations on utility projects, managing crews, and ensuring all work complies with safety regulations and project specifications. This role requires hands-on experience in underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drains, gas, electrical conduits) and the ability to operate heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, and rollers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate crews performing underground utility installations, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
- Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and utility locates to ensure accurate installations.
- Operate heavy equipment (excavators, loaders, rollers, backhoes) when necessary to assist the crew.
- Plan and delegate daily tasks to optimize productivity and efficiency.
- Conduct safety meetings and enforce compliance with OSHA 30 regulations and company safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve on-site issues related to underground utilities, including conflicts with existing infrastructure.
- Ensure all work meets local codes, specifications, and project requirements.
- Monitor and manage materials, equipment, and workforce to maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Collaborate with project managers, inspectors, and subcontractors to coordinate workflow and resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, including progress tracking, crew hours, and any incidents.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in underground utility construction.
- 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role managing utility crews.
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment (excavators, loaders, rollers, etc.).
- OSHA 30 certification (mandatory).
- Strong knowledge of underground utilities, including trenching, shoring, and pipe installation.
- Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and utility maps.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Experience in scheduling, material ordering, and coordinating subcontractors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NCCER Certification or other relevant industry certifications.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience in municipal or DOT utility projects.
