Position Overview:
The Chief Human Resource Director will be a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing the people strategy for Thatcher. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s HR vision, fostering a high-performance culture, and supporting the organization’s growth and transformation. The Director will work closely with the President and the executive leadership team to ensure that the company attracts, develops, and retains top talent while managing compensation and benefits programs, including long-term incentive plans (LTIP), short-term incentive plans (STIP), and wage banding initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. HR Strategy & Leadership
    • Lead the overall HR strategy and function in alignment with the company’s business goals and objectives.
    • Develop and execute strategies for workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee engagement, leadership development, and succession planning.
    • Partner with the President and executive leadership to define and reinforce the company culture, ensuring alignment with business goals.
    • Provide strategic guidance and counsel to the President, senior leadership team, and Board of Directors on all people-related matters.
  2. Board of Advisors Development
    • Lead the creation and development of a robust Board of Advisors for the company, ensuring that it consists of diverse, high-impact leaders who can provide strategic guidance and help achieve business objectives.
    • Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing management of Board of Advisors members.
    • Ensure regular communication and alignment between the Board of Advisors and the executive team.
  3. Compensation & Benefits
    • Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive compensation and benefits strategies that align with the company’s business goals and market competitiveness.
    • Develop wage banding strategies and structures, ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness, while fostering a pay-for-performance culture.
    • Manage the execution of the Long-Term Incentive Plan (LTIP) and Short-Term Incentive Plan (STIP), ensuring alignment with company objectives and employee performance.
    • Oversee the annual compensation review process and ensure the company’s pay practices are compliant with relevant regulations.
  4. Employee Relations & Organizational Development
    • Foster a positive work environment through proactive employee relations and conflict resolution initiatives.
    • Design and lead organizational development programs, including leadership development, employee engagement surveys, and change management initiatives.
    • Monitor employee performance and provide feedback to develop talent and optimize team effectiveness.
  5. Talent Acquisition & Retention
    • Oversee the recruitment strategy, ensuring that the company attracts, hires, and retains top talent in key business functions.
    • Implement retention strategies, including mentorship programs, career development paths, and competitive benefits packages to ensure a strong employee retention rate.
  6. Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws, including wage and hour regulations, and EEO/AA requirements.
    • Proactively address any HR-related risk management issues, including safety and health compliance.
    • Lead efforts to create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and diverse working environment for all employees.
  7. Performance Management & Succession Planning
    • Lead the performance management process, ensuring alignment with company goals and fostering a continuous feedback culture.
    • Identify critical leadership gaps and high-potential employees, implementing succession planning initiatives to ensure business continuity and long-term growth.
  8. Executive Coaching & Leadership Support
    • Provide coaching and development opportunities for the senior leadership team to enhance their effectiveness and leadership capabilities.
    • Support the President and executive leadership team in decision-making by offering insights on talent, culture, and organizational dynamics.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in human resources, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (preferably within a manufacturing or industrial sector).
  • Proven experience in developing and managing compensation strategies, including wage banding, LTIP, and STIP programs.
  • Extensive experience in working with executive leadership teams and Boards of Directors, particularly in establishing and managing a Board of Advisors.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, organizational development, and performance management.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is preferred.
  • Experience in the chemical or manufacturing industry is highly preferred.
