What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Assistant position at Thayer Design Build?
Overview:Are you a design graduate (or soon to be) who’s eager to break into the industry? This hybrid role starts out supporting the administrative and operational side of a design-build company, with a clear path to transition into a full-time design position within 12–18 months.
We’re looking for someone organized, reliable, and humble enough to learn the business from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to join an award winning team and build deep knowledge of how high-end remodeling projects are executed—giving you a solid foundation before stepping fully into a design role.

- Manage daily office operations—scheduling, paperwork, mail, and deliveries
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and clients professionally
- Support sales, marketing, production, and design teams
- Organize and maintain design samples and finish libraries
- Pick up and deliver materials, samples, and supplies
- Schedule and track subcontractor work and quotes
- Take site measurements and perform 3D scans

- Assist with material selections and presentation prep as design responsibilities grow
- Learn our tools and systems with the goal of becoming a full-time designer
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field (or graduating in 2025)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- A positive, humble attitude and a willingness to do a variety of tasks
- Interest in a long-term design career, starting from the foundation
- Proficiency with basic digital tools (email, spreadsheets, etc.)
- Bonus: Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, sketchup or similar design software
Why Join Us?
- A clear path to grow into a full-time design role
- A collaborative, high-performing work environment
- A supportive team that values input and encourages growth
- Competitive compensation and recognition for excellent work
- Regular team events, professional development, and a positive culture
Benefits:
