What are the responsibilities and job description for the After School Teacher position at The Academy for Little Children?
We are currently searching for an energetic and reliable School Age teacher for our After School Program. Our center serves children from 6 weeks to 10 years and operates on a year-round basis. The School Age teacher is responsible for working with the School Age Site Coordinator to create weekly curriculum that reflects both the children's interests as well as the range of subjects the children are exposed to in grade school.
Candidates must have a minimum of one year's experience working with children aged 5-10 years old in a school age setting. Applicant must be at least twenty-one (21) years old and possess a minimum of an Associates degree or higher in a field related to education, child development, human services, or recreation.
As we are a year-round center, we have a full-day program for school vacations and emergency closures (such as snow days). Applicant will preferably be available to work full-day vacations, including winter and summer breaks; however, we are willing to work around school schedules (as long as applicant has full availability during our After-School hours). Applicant must have exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, especially with parents, as well as patience, flexibility, and effective classroom management skills.
Requirements:
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age (Required)
- Associates degree or higher in a field related to education, child development, human services, or recreation (Required)
- Minimum of 1 years working with 5-10 year olds (Required)
- Must complete 20 hours of professional development per year
- Must possess excellent work attendance
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with the day to day operation in the assigned area
- Plan, prepare, and implement daily activities (via weekly curriculum) that are developmentally appropriate, meeting the needs of all of the children in the group
- Daily communication with families
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized classroom
- Maintaining compliance with DCYF and BrightStars standards
- Following center policies
- Working with coworkers as an active team member

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
