Our Family Vet is a busy veterinary practice that has served the Bullard, Tyler, and Jacksonville area for over 20 years. Our Family Vet is looking for prospective team members by hiring individuals that enjoy the human-animal bond, enjoying helping people with their pets and participates in teamwork to provide quality veterinary medicine to our clients.
Our Family Vet is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Surgical Technician team.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Perform patient intake and schedule discharges
- Prepares animals for surgical procedures, minimally invasive procedures, and dentals by performing manual restraint, pre-anesthetic administration, IV catheter placement, intubation, anesthetic administration, and anesthetic monitoring.
- Follow Our Family Vet's routine standard processes
- Obtain blood samples and run inhouse pre-operative labs
- Documents test results and delivers to appropriate personnel promptly.
- Clean and disinfect the surgical suite, pack and sterilize surgical instruments
- Maintain inventory and supplies in the surgical suite
- Prevent and handle anesthesia emergencies
- Perform CPR
- Keep an accurate log of all controlled substances used
- Performs dentals
- Assist in pre / post operative X-ray imaging
- Handles all tasks associated with x-ray process to include entry of patient information, proper positioning of animals, and preparing forms to be e-mailed or referred as needed.
- Maintain all surgical equipment including anesthesia, ECG, cautery, and autoclave machines
- Assist with lifting animals 50-100 lbs
- Schedule surgical procedures, sedation imaging, recheck exams, etc.
- Communicates with patient's owner by describing medication, possible complications and warnings.
- Checks patient medical records for past histories
- Enters procedures and charges in computer
- Restrains animals for Veterinarian as required.
- Dispenses medication and feeds patients as directed.
- Utilizes computer system to enter and reference patient information as needed.
- Performs necessary lab work such as CBC's, blood profiles, urinalysis, heartworm tests etc.
- Documents test results and delivers to appropriate personnel promptly.
- Prepares specimens for mailing to lab according to practice requirements.
- Assists in clinical care as needed
- Takes medical histories and vital signs of patients.
- Performs departmental housekeeping duties.
- Takes, processes and logs prescription refills in-house, call out pharmacy if needed
- Other duties as assigned.
Availability : Week Days, Weekend Rotation
Qualifications :
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The surgical technician must be able to multi-task. They must be able to think quickly on their feet. They must be able to develop positive working relationships with clients and co-workers.
Skills :
The surgical technician must have skills / knowledge on how to perform dental cleanings, charting teeth abnormalities, anesthesia induction and monitoring, surgical preparation, intravenous catheter placement, vaccination administration, venipuncture, in-house lab work, and filling prescriptions. Our new Team Member must work well with others as well as independently, take initiative and thrive in a busy work environment.
Education / Experience :
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
