Who we are:
The Apprenticeshop is a small non-profit school for traditional boatbuilding and seamanship. We are a community that cultivates thinkers, makers, and doers through traditional boatbuilding and seamanship to navigate an ever-changing world. Our values are: Human Potential, Learning By Doing, Collective Experience, Cultural Exchange, Stewardship, and Sustainability. We believe that all people are capable of building and sailing boats, and that in the process, resilience, self-confidence, resourcefulness, and community-spirit come alive. The educational experience at the Apprenticeshop is hands-on and immersive, with the majority of learning happening through direct experience rather than through traditional class-based, or vocational, teaching. We embrace the idea that there isn’t one right way to build or sail a boat. Our programs are akin to working alongside more experienced colleagues in a boatshop rather than taking direction from instructors in a vocational school model.
