General Job Duties: The primary role of the nurse is to adhere to the requirements set forth by the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) and the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) for the Medication Assistance Certification (MAC) training program to ensure safe and accurate administration of medications, and to perform proper delegation of nursing tasks to unlicensed staff.
Qualifications: Unencumbered RN licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing, Completion of the ABN-approved training to become an MAS Nurse in ADMH Community Programs, CPR certification, and CPI training.

Essential Functions:
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May supervise MAC Workers
- Complete Annual Nursing Assessments, Self-Medication Assessments, Choking Risk Assessments, AIMS, and Fall Assessments
- Complete Focal Assessments
- Complete Comprehensive Assessments
- Administer injectable medications
- Perform sterile procedures
- Monitor Therap Health Tracking
- Assess and monitor wounds, perform dressing changes
- Remove staples and sutures
- Monitor medication administration
- Administer medications per prescriptions, standing orders, or verbal orders received from a physician as needed
- Develop, implement, and follow through on plans of care for people in services
- Supervise and assess MAC workers as they perform assigned duties, ensuring adherence to protocols
- Be available for periodic inspection and evaluation through physical presence and electronic or telephonic communication for direction, consultation, and collaboration at all times.
- Be physically present in the facility and readily accessible to designate or prescribe a course of action or to give procedural guidance, direction, and periodic evaluation
- Update and maintain medication administration records
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure that all orders are carried out as prescribed
- Conduct group home audits
- Attend in-service education programs, staff meetings, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to maintain compliance with ADMH, ABN, or Arc policy Other MAS Nurse Responsibilities:
- Review, update, and maintain medical records
- Complete and process medical documentation
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and pharmacies to ensure all prescribed orders are carried out
- Communicate with team members, staff, and natural supports regarding the healthcare of the people served
- Reconcile person-served medications monthly and as needed
- Complete new admission paperwork
- Perform hospital follow-up
- Conduct hospital discharges
- Review Therap Health Tracking
- Train MAC workers to perform assigned duties
- Administer medications per prescriptions, standing orders, or verbal orders received from a physician as needed
- Provide MAC training
- Phone, computer, office equipment
- Medical equipment, including blood pressure cuffs, thermometers, syringes, needles, stethoscopes, and wound care supplies
- Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Therap Health Tracking, and pharmacy systems
- Medication administration tools and assessment instruments
- Training materials for MAC worker supervision and community-based healthcare programs
- Some duties may require protective gloves, masks, scrubs, lab coats, or other protective medical attire
- May be required to wear additional protective gear when training MAC workers or conducting medical assessments
