What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inclusive Community Program Specialist position at The Arc of Spokane?
We are looking for an individual to support our team in the development and implementation of community based educational, social, and recreational activities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, who are participating in our Inclusive Community Programs (ICP).
If you are passionate about assisting participants in identifying activities and events of interest, can engage with both individual members and groups of members in pursuing such interests, including but not limited to opportunities for individual growth, volunteering, participation in social clubs, extended learning, and community involvement. Services shall, whenever possible, enhance and develop the participants’ ability to increasingly access community offerings in ways that do not require paid support. JOB DUTIES / EXPECTATIONS:
- Assist participants in identifying activities and events of interest. Engage with both individual members and groups of members in pursuing such interests.
- Plan and implement extended learning projects on a variety of topics to enhance the development and personal growth of the participants.
- Consistently model appropriate, respectful, and positive behavior towards members, clients and colleagues at all times.
- Assist clients in building relationships and developing opportunities.
- Encourage and facilitate participant participation.
- Actively work with participants to promote social development and social inclusion.
- Research, through discovery within our community, opportunities for new events, activities and opportunities for the ICP programs.
- Assist with the planning and presentation of Pre-ETS courses per contract requirements, including lesson plans, completing attendance sheets, and following Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) guidelines and processes.
- Communicate with schools participating in Pre-ETS programming regarding classroom, rosters, curriculum and any scheduling changes.
- Communicate effectively with the participants, manager, agency administration, colleagues, parents/guardians, home providers, case managers and/or other stakeholders.
- Participate in community events on behalf of The Arc and represent the organization in a professional, positive, and knowledgeable way.
- Consistently model appropriate, respectful, and positive behavior towards members and colleagues always.
- Work effectively as part of a team yet also be self-directed and able to complete tasks independently.
- Serve as a liaison with County or DDA personnel, and other stakeholders.
- Complete all necessary documentation and reporting requirements, including but not limited to, attendance, incident reports, seizure reports, progress reports, intake, initial service plans, annual and semiannual plans and updates, activity logs, progress reports, case notes, utilizing Setworks client tracking system.
- Prepare for, attend, and participate in member discovery, annual meetings, assessments, and person-centered planning.
- Demonstrate cooperation, flexibility, and a willingness to help during peak work periods to meet client needs and contractual obligations.
- Ensure that all required training is completed, by attending program and agency trainings, in- services and meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in a community integration program or related activity, preferably implementing curriculum, programs, and/or activities for people with disabilities.
- Preferably two years of experience successfully supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Recreational/community activity planning experience.
- Relationship building/ life skills training, volunteer management experience.
- Utilize effective organizing and time management skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 21 years of age
- High-school diploma or GED
- Must be able to successfully pass required background checks
- Must possess strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and computer skills.
- Must be committed to self-advocacy and personal choice for individuals with developmental disabilities
- Must demonstrate sensitivity and commitment to people with disabilities.
- Must be able to proactively and effectively communicate with clients, client support team members (e,g. case managers, home sites, guardians, etc.), co-workers and managers.
- Must have a valid Driver’s license preferred for 5 years, provide reliable transportation, license and proof of car insurance. Must possess a satisfactory DMV driving record.
- An interest in and/or experience driving a large vehicle.
- Must maintain current certifications as needed for client safety and job responsibilities. This may include CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Food and Beverage Workers Permit, and other certifications as needed.
- Must be able to work flexible hours to meet client, program, and agency needs.
- Must be able and willing to be part of a flexible work team and excel in an independent work environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to perform physical aspects of the job, which include frequently: stand, walk; use hands to finger and reach with hands and arms; see, hear, speak, and touch. This position may include physical supporting/assisting clients with toileting, feeding and pushing/pulling, bend, kneel, twist, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
COMPENSATION: $19.00-$20.90. DOE starting range, entire scale to $24.70 per hour, Non-exempt, Full-time 40 hours per week Monday-Friday with flexibility to work some evenings or weekends.
- All pay is based on longevity at The Arc of Spokane; thus, the starting pay for this position is $19.00 per hour.
