Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and autism. This position focuses on enhancing the quality of life for residents by promoting independence, dignity, and respect. The DSP works closely with clients to assist them in daily living activities, ensuring their needs are met in a safe and supportive environment.

About The Ark House

The Ark House is licensed grassroots group home located in Northeast Columbus. Founded in the 70's, it has remained a place of sanctuary, promoting inclusiveness and independence for differently-abled individuals. In addition to five full-time residents, ranging in age and gender, The Ark is also home to a flock of chickens, two rabbits, two cats, and all of the beautiful wildlife that have come to grace the yard.

With 24 hour support staff, our residents receive the highest level of care. We are a one-of-a-kind group home, with an emphasis on community and family. Our residents have access to a garden, a pottery studio with a kiln, art supplies, musical instruments, and so much more. Our resident artist is always ready to teach a new medium. We aim to foster a creative environment.

We are looking to hire a kind, compassionate, patient, and responsible individual to work the following shifts:

MONDAYS 2-8 pm

TUESDAYS 2-10 pm

WEDNESDAYS 2-10 pm

For a total of 22 hours per week.

We offer PTO and sick pay for part-time and full-time employees, as well as mileage reimbursement anytime you take your personal vehicle for an outing. A company vehicle is also available. 18 with a clean background.

Duties

• Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities in various settings, including assisted living and memory care facilities.
• Assist clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
• Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary requirements and preferences.
• Administer medications as prescribed, ensuring compliance with medication administration protocols.
• Support residents in engaging in recreational activities that promote social interaction and personal growth.
• Uphold resident rights by advocating for their needs and preferences while fostering a respectful environment.
• Document daily activities, progress notes, and any changes in the client’s condition or behavior.
• Maintain a clean and safe living environment for all residents.

Skills

• Strong understanding of patient care principles and practices.
• Experience in direct support roles, particularly with individuals facing developmental challenges is preferrred, but we will train the right candidate.
• Knowledge of meal preparation techniques that cater to specific dietary needs.
• Familiarity with assisted living environments and the unique needs of residents.
• Awareness of resident rights and advocacy practices.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals with developmental disabilities.
