SUMMARY:
The Senior Accountant, under the guidance of the Senior Director of Finance, is responsible for accounting functions, financial reporting, and analysis for assigned programs. This role includes performing routine monthly journal entries, managing special assignments related to transactional accounting, and the preparation and communication of reports and analyses including, but not limited to management of revenue, expense and balance sheet accounts; production of month end reports and variance analyses; budgeting and forecasting; review and evaluation of internal controls; and preparation of audit materials. This role requires a commitment to the mission, vision and values of the JCC.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Prepare monthly journal entries related to transactional accounting, including worker’s compensation, payroll journal entries, and funding agreements.
Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and coordinate the collection of all balance sheet account work papers monthly.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analyses with explanations.
Build and maintain financial reports utilizing accounting software and spreadsheets.
Assist in compiling data in preparation for and throughout the budget process.
Provide backup support for the Payroll and Accounting staff as needed.
Lead and assist with special projects as assigned.
Crosstrain in designated areas to assure continuity of operations.
Assist with all aspects of year-end audit and IRS reporting.
Assist with additional audit tasks as requested.
Perform other duties as required or directed.
WHO YOU ARE:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Minimum of three years relevant professional accounting experience.
Working knowledge of non-profit accounting is a plus.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Proficiency in computerized financial systems. Experience with Sage Intacct, Solver Reporting, Salesforce, and/or Ceridian Dayforce is preferred.
Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, macros), with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, with the ability to work with financial databases and software.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and meet identified deadlines.
Superior interpersonal and customer service skills, With the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with staff, members, community partners, and lay leaders.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
Ability to work under pressure, maintain accuracy, and respond to identified department deadlines with a sense of urgency.
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is usually fast paced, requiring high energy and interaction with staff, members, other agency staff, community leaders, outside partners, vendors, and others.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have prolonged periods sitting at a desk using a computer, is regularly required to speak with others, and may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary (or Salary Range): $80,000 - $95,000
