Job Description 

The Marketing Copy Writer is responsible for the development and creation of written content to be used in expanding AFTD’s impact and reach.

 

Job Summary

Under the guidance of the Content & Media Relations Manager, the Marketing Copy Writer will collaborate with AFTD staff to ensure the timely promotion of FTD awareness and AFTD resources in accordance with AP style and AFTD messaging. They are directly responsible for designing emails, email journeys, and collateral. In addition, they will support subject matter experts during monthly webinars and serve as the final proofreader for written material produced within the department.

 

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions

  • Content Development: In accordance with AP and AFTD’s style guides, write content AFTD emails, newsletters, blogs, website pages, and other publications.
  • SEO: Implement SEO strategy as directed by Content Writer and Digital Marketing Manager.
  • Help & Hope: Work with AFTD staff to manage the content creation of this weekly newsletter.
  • Email Journeys: Work with the Director of Marketing & Communications to write email content for all Marketing Cloud journeys to target specific segments of our community.
  • Webinars: Prepare slides and coordinate with presenters to run Zoom Health Professional and general FTD webinars every other month. Responsible for managing the tasks of AFTD staff according to the webinar SOP.
  • Proof reading: Use excellent attention to detail to proof department deliverables.
  • Use Marketing Cloud to set up Event emails for delivery, in close collaboration with the staff across the organization.

Other Job Functions

  • Use Meltwater and other tools to assist the Content & Media Relations Manager in identifying FTD-related stories, crafting story pitches, and conducting outreach to journalists and media outlets to spread awareness of FTD and AFTD.
  • Work with subject matter experts to update AFTD’s website and collateral in a consistent manner.
  • Other editing/writing tasks as needed.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position is an individual contributor and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications


Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this role:

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or similar field, or equivalent preferred. Equivalent experience may also be considered.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of professional writing experience; health/science/disease-advocacy writing experience preferred.

Special knowledge/skills

  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills are required.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, particularly Word are required.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines are required.
  • Digital platform knowledge and experience including WordPress, MailChimp, Marketing Cloud, Salesforce or comparable platforms is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience with outreach to diverse populations is preferred.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is a plus.
