About the Role:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Bioinformatics Analyst with experience working at the intersection of clinical informatics and genomics. This role supports the development of knowledge networks, phenotype-genotype mapping, and integrating omics data into clinical research tools. The ideal candidate will have expertise in sequence data analysis, variant interpretation, and EHR integration, and will contribute to data modeling efforts that enable the discovery and visualization of biologically meaningful patterns. The analyst will also play a key role in harmonizing genomic data with phenotype definitions to support VA’s precision medicine and translational research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret genomic and omics data in the context of clinical phenotypes
- Develop and maintain workflows for variant annotation, gene mapping, and data harmonization
- Support the integration of genomic features into knowledge networks and phenotype algorithms
- Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to identify associations between genetic data and clinical outcomes
- Prepare and clean datasets from multiple sources, including EHR and external databases
- Work collaboratively with technical teams to support phenotype development and feature engineering
- Assist in the iterative design of knowledge networks that include gene-disease relationships
- Contribute to research reports, manuscripts, and presentations based on analysis results
- Help document and transfer bioinformatics tools to VA repositories for future use
- Stay up to date with bioinformatics methods and tools relevant to VA research priorities
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related discipline
- Strong foundation in biology, genetics, or molecular science
- Experience with genomic sequencing technologies, annotation tools, and variant analysis pipelines
- Proficiency in R and Python for data analysis and visualization
- Familiarity with EHR data and phenotyping methods
- Demonstrated experience in integrating clinical and omics data for research or decision support
- Ability to communicate complex results to interdisciplinary teams and contribute to manuscript development
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative research skills
