Summer@Baldwin Summer Camp is hiring a camp sport coordinator to join our fun filled day camp!
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Summer Camp Sports Coordinator to create and lead a sports program that engages campers of all ages and abilities (Pre-K through 8th grade). The Sports Coordinator will be responsible for developing and delivering a variety of age-appropriate, fun, and educational sports activities while ensuring safety and promoting teamwork. This role involves planning, managing sports equipment, providing program assistance for camp-wide activities, and working closely with other camp staff to ensure a positive and active camp experience.
Responsibilities:Sports Program Development & Delivery:
- Plan and Lead Sports Activities: Develop and deliver daily sports programs, including games and activities that are suitable for campers from Pre-K through 8th grade, focusing on skill development, fun, and teamwork.
- Adapt Activities: Modify and adapt sports activities to match the abilities and interests of each age group, ensuring that all campers are included and engaged.
- Create Lesson Plans: Write and submit detailed lesson plans for each sports activity to the Camp Director at least one week in advance. Plans should include clear goals, instructions, and safety guidelines.
Safety & Supervision:
- Enforce Safety Guidelines: Implement and enforce safety procedures during all sports activities to ensure the well-being of campers and staff.
- Monitor Camper Behavior: Supervise campers during sports activities, ensuring they follow camp rules, work together as a team, and treat each other with respect.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks or hazards in the activity area and take proactive steps to minimize them. Be prepared to respond appropriately to any injuries or accidents.
Equipment & Facility Management:
- Inventory Sports Equipment: Regularly inventory all sports equipment (balls, cones, jerseys, etc.) and ensure it is well-maintained, clean, and ready for use.
- Order Supplies: Submit order requests to the Camp Director for any necessary sports equipment or replacements, ensuring that all materials are available for programming.
- Maintain Equipment & Spaces: Ensure all sports equipment and play areas are organized, safe, and clean. Regularly inspect equipment for wear and tear, and report any issues to the Camp Director for prompt resolution.
Camp-Wide Program Support:
- Assist with Themed Activities: Provide programming assistance for camp-wide events, themed activities, or special projects, supporting other camp staff as needed.
- Collaborate with Camp Team: Work closely with other coordinators, counselors, and camp leadership to ensure smooth execution of daily camp activities and support special events or initiatives.
5. Staff Collaboration & Meetings:
- Participate in Staff Meetings: Attend and actively participate in staff meetings to discuss program plans, updates, and any challenges or ideas for improvement.
- Provide Support to Counselors: Work alongside counselors to ensure sports activities are run smoothly and that campers are properly supervised during breaks, transitions, and events.
6. Additional Responsibilities:
- Other Duties as Assigned: Assist the Camp Director and other camp staff with additional tasks or responsibilities that arise during the camp season, including supporting general camp activities or special events.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Previous experience in sports coaching, sports programming, or teaching physical education, especially with children, is preferred.
- Experience working with children of various age groups (Pre-K through 8th grade) and varying skill levels is a plus.
- Leadership Skills:
- Ability to lead and motivate groups of children, keeping them engaged while teaching sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition.
- Organizational Skills:
- Strong planning and organizational skills to develop and implement lesson plans and manage sports equipment and activities.
- Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal communication skills to clearly explain activities, give instructions, and interact with campers, staff, and camp leadership.
- Physical Fitness:
- Ability to demonstrate and participate in physical activities and sports with campers, maintaining energy and enthusiasm throughout the day.
- Patience & Flexibility:
- Ability to be patient and adaptable, responding to the needs and abilities of different age groups and adjusting activities as needed.
- First Aid/CPR Certification:
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR (or the ability to obtain prior to camp start) is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand, walk, and participate in physical activities for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and move sports equipment as necessary.
- Ability to supervise children during outdoor or indoor activities, in varying weather conditions.
