The Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) of The Bar Association of San Francisco currently has an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal to become part of our SASH (Sargent Shriver Child Custody) team!
About JDC:
JDC is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and indigent San Francisco residents through staff and volunteer based services. Each year more than 1,900 volunteer attorneys, interpreters, law students and college students work with JDC staff to serve nearly 8,500 indigent clients. JDC’s holistic advocacy approach seeks to address the social service needs of clients in addition to their legal needs.
About the Job:
The SASH Paralegal will report to SASH’s Supervising Attorney. The Paralegal is responsible for: client interviews; calendaring court dates and deadlines in Outlook; record keeping; filing documents with the San Francisco Superior Court in-person or via e-filing; coordinating electronic signatures; mailing and serving court documents; scheduling Zoom meetings; assisting attorneys with case management; collecting and reporting client demographics into a database; and other related tasks with other JDC projects as needed.
The successful candidate will have the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Paralegal certificate is a plus, but not required
- Experience with Family Law litigation preferred
- Experience working for or with non-profits is preferred
- Experience working in or with law firms is preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Excellent computer skills working with various software programs
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Proven ability to effectively coordinate several projects simultaneously
- Proven ability to exercise good judgment
- Work well in a team environment and be an engaged team member
- Bilingual in Spanish
- General understanding of business and legal issues related to non-profit organizations preferred
- Experience in law offices practicing in family law, litigation or immigration preferred
