The Assistant Controller works with the CEO, CFO, Operations and Project Teams to accurately account for the cost, billing, and profitability of assigned projects.

The Assistant Controller will also support the annual budget and audit processes.

Essential Functions
Primary Responsibilities/Duties
- Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and creating/maintaining strong employee relationships.
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinates, oversees and directs the month end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
- Engage in critical and confidential aspects of accounting.
- Ensure compliance with the financial procedures of the organization.
- Work as liaison between accounting and project management.
- Conduct project cost, other analyses, and reporting for the project team and accounting.
- Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly and annual covenant reporting in compliance with debt agreements.
- Assist with treasury matters including disbursements, deposits and coordination with the bank.
- Stays current with necessary federal and statutory compliance, including, but not limited to sales and use tax reporting, licensing requirements, workers compensation, etc.
- Work with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.
- Participates in the development and execution of Berg’s strategic and business plan including achievement of key objectives.
- Establish and develops relationships with employees, including the company management team, as well as external partners and stakeholders.
- Support and continuous improvement of Berg’s high-performance culture.
- Provide visionary leadership for new ideas and approaches and humbly welcomes ideas to innovate and better Berg from all levels of the organization.
- Develop trust and maintain a collaborative and supportive leadership presence with the Project Management team.
- Participate in and support recruitment, hiring, onboarding efforts as appropriate to develop an exceptional team.
- Foster a collaborative culture that enhances employee satisfaction, engagement, and results-orientation while encouraging innovation and creativity.
- Schedule and conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to provide coaching, mentorship, and ongoing collaboration.
- Establishes and achieves specific, measurable, and obtainable objectives that support Berg's overall growth and profitability objectives while creating client, employee, and company success.

- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, as well as experience with ERP Accounting applications.
- Possess excellent problem-solving and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and provide leadership for project coordination.
- Bachelor’s decrease in accounting
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience
- Detail-oriented, deadline/goal-driven.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
- Construction industry knowledge preferred
- Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 - 15 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying.
- Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
- Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
