Job description
The Black Car Fund is a not-for-profit that provides workers’ compensation insurance, safety education, and related benefits to For-Hire drivers who operate in the state of New York and are affiliated with companies that are The Fund’s Member Bases.
We are currently seeking an experienced workers' compensation Claims Assistant with excellent personable and customer service skills, to join our team.
This position is Full-time/Hybrid:
- Full time in-office the first 90 days of employment for onboarding, training, and review.
- Following the 90 days, the work schedule will change to Hybrid.
The selected candidate will be required to perform the following responsibilities as a vital member of our Claims Team:
- Answer the Claims Support phone line and respond to general and some specific inquiries concerning Claims matters, including pre-screening potential new claimants.
- Set up files for new claims that consist of interviewing claimants and gathering accident information, obtaining documents, faxing, scanning documents, etc.
- Assist Claims Adjusters with managing active claims by following up on phone calls, filing forms electronically (EDI) and by postal mail with the state’s Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) timely, managing bills, and document management such as filing, identifying, and recommending closure on stale cases, and any other areas where an Adjuster requires assistance in managing their claims.
- Along with the Claims Adjusters, meet daily reporting deadlines
- The candidate must be willing to participate in education, training, and team-building exercises provided by the company to enhance knowledge, skills, and rapport as a member of the organization.
Related Education and Training
- As stated above, a successful candidate must be willing to actively participate in training and education related to the position as well as core values when provided by the company.
Qualifications
- College Degree preferred or an acceptable level of experience as a CA is required
- Experience as a Claims Assistant with critical duties is required
Required Skills
- Proficient in the use of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software such as MS Word and Outlook
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Knowledge of business email and telephone etiquette is required.
- Strong multitasking skills- the ability to manage calls and desktop work proficiently.
- Ability to set and prioritize daily tasks independently and complete daily goals
- Takes initiative and is adaptable to change
- Ability to take direction from all levels of management and work well with a team and independently
