Job Summary:
The Cost Accountant is responsible for managing and analyzing costs associated with production and operations to ensure that financial records are accurate, cost-effective, and aligned with company goals. This role involves compiling data for cost analysis, monitoring cost variances, and preparing reports to guide decision-making and improve profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze and monitor costs for production, labor, materials, and overhead.
- Prepare detailed cost reports to assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Review and report on cost variances to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Inventory Management:
- Manage and track inventory levels, ensuring accuracy in both financial and physical counts.
- Perform regular stock audits and ensure correct costing of inventory.
- Monitor and evaluate inventory turnover rates and work to reduce obsolescence.
Cost Control:
- Develop and maintain cost standards for materials, labor, and overhead.
- Monitor expenses and recommend cost-reduction strategies.
- Ensure that all cost-related transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, including production costs.
- Work with various departments to ensure cost estimations are accurate and within expected ranges.
Product Costing:
- Calculate product costs for pricing and profitability analysis.
- Provide accurate and timely cost information for new product development or product pricing decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience (4 years) in cost accounting
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and cost structures is preferred
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position.
- Standard office hours, with occasional overtime as required.
