We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant/CVT to care for animals and support Veterinarians. VETERINARY EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. You’ll play an important role in bringing comfort to our furry patients and ensuring the smooth running of our facility. One of the most important Veterinary Assistant responsibilities is to ensure all animals are well cared for, and you are confident in your skill set. We’ll rely on you to assist the Veterinarian in examinations and operations. You need the ability to care for them properly – that’s one of the most important Vet Assistant job requirements. This includes knowledge of routine tasks, taking x-rays, dental cleanings, blood draws, IV catheter placement, assisting in surgical procedures. You must also have the readiness to care for injured or scared animals and has knowledge of how to handle each animal. We are a fast paced, very busy clinic needing someone who can help us continue to grow. If you’re quick on your feet and love helping animals, but also enjoy the tasks of cleaning, restocking and organizing this job is for you.
Responsibilities
- Draw blood, run bloodwork, place IV catheter, dental cleaning, assist in surgical procedures
- Sterilize equipment and clean examination tables and rooms
- Restrain animals during examinations or vaccinations
- Soothe upset or frightened animals
- Administer medication prescribed by Veterinarians ( IV, IM, SQ, PO)
- Observe animal behavior or health condition and report to the Vet
- Help in cases of emergencies
- Handle duties of record keeping and charges for visits
- Keep accurate records and logs or controlled medications
- Reassure clients that their pets are being cared for and explain issues (Confident in your knowledge of veterinary medicine)
- Advise pet owners on heartworms, fleas, ticks- all preventions needed
Skills
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Assistant or similar position working with animals
- Excellent communication skills
- Patient and caring personality
- Ability to follow instructions properly
- Comfortable being around animals (cats, dogs, reptiles etc.)
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 100 lbs)
- Availability to occasionally work in emergencies
