Summary

Provide a safe and nurturing environment for children that, encourages their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. Assist in the development and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities according to guidelines established by the Boys Girls Club and Family Center of Bristol. Incorporate BBGC mission, vision, goals, philosophies, policies, and development of a wide-ranging environment. Review important decisions with his / her supervisor, and maintain positive relationships with families, children and colleagues. Ensure safety and supervision of children at all times by meeting the physical demands of the position.

Duties

  • Work under the direction of Boys Girls Club and The Family Center of Bristol agency policies and procedures.
  • Adequately supervise children at all times. Demonstrate awareness of entire group whether working with a small group or individuals.
  • Assist in the preparation of the day to day operations of your clubhouse or facility.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of facility.
  • Plan, develop and implement engaging age appropriate activities and lesson plans for club members.
  • Maintain and follow all safety and health procedures of the clubhouse in accordance with DPH, OEC Statues Regulations and the organization’s policies procedures.
  • Ensure safety in all program areas. Respond immediately and appropriately to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies.Engage children in positive recreational and educational activities. Inform Clubhouse Director of any concerns with children.
  • Serve as a positive role model for children, families, school personnel and colleagues. Implement positive techniques in the guidance and discipline of children.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor that promotes teamwork among all school-age and organization’s staff.
  • Respect and observe children's interests. Intervene when needed to maintain safety. Enhance club member’s play with engaging activities.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings to meet continuing education requirements. Continue professional growth by attending courses, asking for feedback, and reading professional literature.
  • Establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation and respect with colleagues. Assume a fair share of work. Look for ways to be helpful. Demonstrate initiative. Offer and share ideas and materials with colleagues.
  • Assist in covering at other school-based sites to help maintain ratios if needed.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Clubhouse Director, Director of School-Based Programs, and / or executive staff.

Requirements

Qualifications and Competencies :

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Must have driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience working in child care setting, preferred.
  • Epi-pen, First Aid, CPR, and Administration of Medication certified, preferred.
  • Pass Tuberculin test statement of good health from a licensed physician.
  • Must Pass Fingerprint and Department of Children Families’ background check.
  • Must possess the personal qualities necessary to care for and work with children.
  • Maintain confidentiality about issues concerning other staff members, children, families and the Boys Girls Club and Family Center of Bristol management and operations.
  • Support organizational mission, vision, philosophies, values, goals, and policies to families, colleagues, and community.

  • Able to work in a standing position and walk throughout the day
  • Must be : highly mobile, able to access all areas of the premises including multiple levels with or without the use of an elevator; able to travel throughout the community; self-reliant, resilient and able to work in a fast paced, safe, accurate work site for 8-10 hours per day.
  • Must have : free range of body motion which enables incumbent to reach, pull, push, stretch, bend, stop, twist and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.; vision and hearing acuity corrected to normal; ability to verbalize so the average person can comprehend.
  • Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements.
