Position Summary/Objective:
As a critical member of the Maintenance team, the Knitting/Sewing Maintenance Technician will ensure that all knitting, linking, and sewing machines are maintained in optimal working condition. The role aims to minimize downtime while meeting plant and departmental needs. The technician will be responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and addressing issues that arise with machines. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and takes direction from Production Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, eye protection, and safety shoes.
- Ensure equipment operates effectively to meet plant and department requirements.
- Proactively identify machine issues before they escalate.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic to intermediate technical issues.
- Diagnose problems, determine root causes, and repair or replace parts and components as needed.
- Maintain tools and spare parts inventory to ensure availability of necessary components for machine upkeep.
- Collaborate with department personnel to discuss findings, develop solutions, and implement corrections.
- Provide recommendations for equipment improvements, installations, or changes based on observations.
- Independently perform more complex repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Follow the preventative maintenance schedule to ensure consistent upkeep of equipment.
- Assist in the installation of new equipment and the relocation of existing machines.
- Communicate concerns regarding machine performance to the supervisor.
- Notify supervisors of deviations in processes, operational quality, maintenance standards, and safety protocols.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong mechanical knowledge and technical skills.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and repairs using necessary tools.
- Proficiency with power drills, saws, pullers, and other hand tools.
- Basic electrical knowledge is a plus.
- Familiarity with the tools and equipment required for different maintenance tasks.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and contribute as part of a team.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of related experience in maintenance is required.
- Textile industry experience is a plus, with knowledge of knitting and sewing machines preferred.
