What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Advocate position at The Bridge Children's Advocacy Center?
SUMMARY:
The Family Advocate is responsible for providing support services to child victims and their non-offending family members as well as working within the multi-disciplinary team.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field. Experience working with victims and their families preferred. Knowledge of child abuse and investigative procedures preferred. Bi-lingual preferred.

Must be mission driven with unquestionable integrity. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with many different constituencies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and facilitation skill’s, analytical ability and resourcefulness, as required in developing and implementing progressive plans and program initiatives. Good time management and organizational skills required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Family Services and Referrals
- Provide referrals for social services/mental health services as indicated and follow up on referrals to ensure needs met.
- Assist with and facilitate caregiver’s completion of Crime Victim Compensation application process and forwarding forms to Crime Victim Coordinators.
- Assist victims and families, as needed, until resolution of case.
- Ensure an evaluation is obtained from families on services received.
- Primary contact for intake and referrals for general population by phone; provide resources for anyone who calls or comes to The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center.
- Assist with the client-intake procedure including completing intake paperwork making family comfortable while at The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center.
- Participate in the on-call rotation when after-hours response is necessary.
Case Management
- Document referrals made and funding assistance provided in a timely manner.
- Maintain case files and statistical data on case dispositions.
- Conduct follow-up on files throughout the civil and criminal processes. Update files and reports.
- Manage referrals to contracted and in-house counselors.
- Maintain documentation of statistics on services and provide grant support.
Community
- Participate actively as a member of the Sexual Assault Response Team, the Panhandle Victim’s Coalition and the Multidisciplinary Case Review Team.
- Provide child abuse and victim’s rights education to individual groups, health fairs attendees and professionals within the community.
- Participate in events that include, but are not limited to, Child Abuse Prevention Month (April) Activities, annual Candle Lighting Services for Victims, Conferences and Trainings.
Additional Responsibilities and Requirements
- Regularly report to the Support Services Supervisor.
- Effectively work with others in a team environment and maintain composure in high stress situations.
- Demonstrate professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills with clients, co-workers, Multi-Disciplinary Team members and Board of Directors.
- Assist with volunteer and intern training, supervision, and appreciation as assigned by the Executive Director or Program Director.
- Perform any and all activities to support the mission of the organization and ensure advocacy in the communities served as directed by the Executive Director, supervisor and/or Leadership Team.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must not have any criminal history. Criminal History will be run prior to employment and regularly during employment.
