The Brunswick School is a growing Early Childhood Education company located in Downtown Jersey City. Our successful program is expanding and we are looking for a school van driver to join our amazing team.
Required Skills and Experience

Operate a school van over an assigned route in transporting children to and from schools within close proximity and on other occasional authorized school trips.

Drive the school van in a safe manner and consistent with all policies and procedures of the NJ Department of Motor Vehicles and NJ Department of Children and Families, Office of Licensing for Child Care Centers.

Transport food deliveries between schools as needed.

Utilize van for any other school needs that may require transportation field trips, transporting staff between campuses, bringing equipment/furniture from one campus to another, etc.

Maintain a calm and comforting environment among student's aboard school van and report any issues to school officials through proper procedures.

Inspects van and checks gas, oil, water and all lights, brakes, and safety equipment before driving during daily pre-trip safety checks.

Monthly van safety checks to ensure safety and compliance.

Assist with routine van evacuation drills.

Keeps the van clean - both inside and outside.

Prepare reports of accidents and incidents which occur on the van

Keeps an up-to-date route sheet and passenger log on the bus at all times.

Must be able to relate positively to young children, staff and parents.

Must be able to speak and understand English language.

Willing to work overtime hours during the week or weekend, stay late occasionally for school events as needed.

Facilities and maintenance experience is a plus, but not required.
Requirements

Hold and maintain a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A, B or C with a New Jersey Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) Endorsement.

Company will assist applicants with fees associated with completing the P and S endorsements if currently not held but MUST be completed within 90 days of employment.

Be a reliable person of good character who shall possess the qualifications and communication skills necessary to perform the duties of the position and comply with the rules set forth for drivers in all federal, state and local regulations including, but not limited to, the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act, N.J.S.A. 18A:39-17 through 20 (background check), and tuberculosis testing.

Receive a current TB screening and complete a physical examination, which verifies physical constraint job requirements. (Physical constraints required include the ability to hear a conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, the ability to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses, to speak and be understood under normal circumstances, and to use arms and legs and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job. This includes evacuation of the building and vehicle during emergencies).

First Aid/CPR training preferred but not required to start. School will provide CPR/First-Aid training upon hire.

Have sufficient mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems and make appropriate repairs.

Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.

Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with young students, staff, administration, parents and the community.

Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and receive annual flu vaccine.
