What are the responsibilities and job description for the Baker / Pastry Chef position at The Butter End Cakery?
Renowned custom cake studio seeking experienced baker for our retail store in Santa Monica.
Join our small, tight knit group of passionate artists as we create magnificent cakes & desserts for our clients! This position is the cornerstone of our success. After all, our slogan is “Dry cake is dumb.”
As baker you would be responsible for maintaining the highest quality standards for cakes and desserts.
Current baker works 5am to 1pm. These hours can be flexible.
Job Requirements:
- Follow established recipes to ensure delicious and consistent cakes
- Making desserts
- Create / test new recipes as needed
- Prepping pans, baking cakes, prepping cakes for stacking
- Making buttercreams and ganache
- Ensures proper amount of ingredients on hand to meet orders, placing orders with suppliers and popping out to the store occasionally.
- Filling, crumbing, stacking cakes
- Buttercream finishing experience preferred, but not necessary.
- Make sure that the kitchen is maintained with pristine cleanliness.
Other Skills/Experience required:
- Proficient in English with clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in a pastry department preferred.
- Valid CA Food Handler Certificate
- Self-motivated with the ability to see what is needed to be done with little direction.
- Able to prioritize tasks with a teamwork focus.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
Able to stand, walk, climb stairs throughout shift. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds on occasion.
Pay range starts at $20/hr, and goes up from there, depending on experience.
