Overview:
The Carey School, a Pre-K to 5 independent school in San Mateo, California, is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Assistant Counselors to support our summer program, Camp Carey. Assistant Counselors play a key role in creating a fun, safe, and inclusive camp experience. Working closely with Lead Counselors, Assistant Counselors help facilitate activities, engage with campers, and ensure a positive environment for all.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Counselor reports to the Auxiliary Programs Director and works under the guidance of the Lead Counselor. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Lead Counselor in planning and leading hands-on activities and crafts.
- Taking full responsibility for planning and leading outdoor group games in collaboration with other Assistant Counselors.
- Actively supervising and engaging with campers to ensure their safety, well-being, and enjoyment.
- Fostering an inclusive, team-oriented environment and modeling positive interactions with campers.
- Helping maintain a clean, organized, and safe camp environment, including activity areas and equipment.
- Supporting behavior management and conflict resolution in collaboration with the Lead Counselor.
- Participating fully and enthusiastically in all camp activities and events, setting a positive example for campers.
- Communicating effectively with camp leadership, fellow staff, and parents/guardians as needed.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children is preferred but not required.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, and committed to creating a positive camp experience.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and initiative.
- Willingness to be actively involved in all aspects of camp life.

Pay Rate: $20-25 per hour
