Summary
The Carlstar Group Operations Support III is an hourly position responsible for continuous performance according to assigned job specifications. The successful candidate will be committed to safety, good housekeeping, and a willingness to learn. Operations Support III employees can be trained and assigned to any of the roles of the below-listed jobs at the manufacturing plant, and often will rotate between the different jobs as business needs dictate – Kanban Coordinator, Trim & Inspect, Yard Dog, Classifier, Shipping Clerk, SP Sorter, SP Mold Cleaner
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Kanban Coordinator
- Transform the ticket needs into a usable and accurate plan the plant floor associates can use to produce needed product
- Drive improvement strategies to the shop floor within the plant planning systems
- Work close with Manufacturing Control team members to ensure focus is maintained to ensure the plants internal needs are met as well as external customers
- Act as a change agent on the plant floor
- Responsible for teaching and coaching employees on the planning and ticketing processes within the facility
- Promote implementation of efficient planning systems, including standard work, Kanban systems and other pull/lean systems
- Engage in high quality analysis of plant planning operations to identify improvement initiatives
- Compile planning information daily while also monitoring daily reports and reacts as needed to that information
- Creates daily plans and end of shift reports
- Plans and monitors daily inbound/outbound loads
- Work with inventory to ensure accurate receipt, and notify departments/managers of discrepancies
- Resolve problems by collecting and analyzing information and coordinating solutions with departments/managers
- Prepare work area with the necessary items to ensure efficient and accurate process flow
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Trim & Inspect
- Responsible for all aspect of Trim & Inspect Role, according to Standard Work Procedures, including but not limited to properly and safely:

- Checking silicone levels in buckets
- Removing tires from the conveyor belt
- Holding tires on cone and trimming tires
- Inspecting trimmed tires
- Sorting tires that are ready for distribution and those needing to be classified

- Responsible for correct processing of major and repeating defects as specified in General Specification 28-10
- Examine the tires classified by inspectors as defective and correctly identify the type of defect and update the tire defect record in the computer system with correct defect codes and dates.
- After establishing the probable causes for the defects, promptly contact the relevant Shift Leader, Press Operators, and Quality Technicians
- Periodically, examine the large size tires at the press locations, inspect and classify correctly.
- Assure orders and shipping quantities match picking documents through careful audit of said documents.
- Enter data pertaining to domestic and international shipments into the company’s ERP system and into the shipping systems of commercial freight carriers.
- Coordinate with carriers and freight forwarders to schedule pick-up of goods.
- Will be responsible for all outbound freight to comply with warehouse operations.
- Will prepare accurate bills of lading for outbound freight.
- Ensure the accuracy of all shipping documents by strict adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Plans and monitors daily outbound loads.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Yard Dog (Valid CDL Required)
- Haul product onsite from one location to another.
- Asist in loading and unloading the trailer and securing with load bars and straps.
- Ensure all requirements pertaining to safety, large truck operation, and all other regulations are followed by law, plant policy, and according to the Standard Work Procedures
- Demonstrated ability to operate truck, in addition to CDL requirement.
- Only qualified employees will train on this position
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Classifier
- Responsible for correct processing of major and repeating defects as specified in General Specification 28-10
- Examine tires classified by inspectors as defective and correctly identify the type of defect
- Update the tire defect record in the computer system with correct defect codes and dates
- Ability to establishing the probable causes for the defects
- Continuous contact with the relevant Curing Supervisor (Curing and Tire Assembly), Press Operators, and Technical Plant Leaders
- Ability to identify and Inform personnel of defect and suggest possible corrective actions
- Classify defective tires as Repairable/Scrap/ABO/Non-Adjustable.
- Lead crew in attempt to repair tires whenever practically possible
- Understanding of when to scrap, buff, brand, or palletize tires
- Appy labels/stamps, as needed
- Sort tires into proper locations and update all records
- Assist inspectors with quality related questions, problem-solving, and finding a reasonable solution
- Ensure tire trimming is carried out properly and in an acceptable manner
- Periodically, examine the large size tires at the press locations, inspect and classify correctly
- Perform duties for quality, as needed
- Complete any paperwork or computer programs relating to defects/quality, as needed
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Shipping Clerk
- Lead clerk is responsible for training off-shift clerks
- Confirm shipments to customers via JDE
- Perform inventory transfers as required
- Check tickets against shipping schedule
- Fill out bill of lading and orders as needed
- Print orders and shipping documents as required
- Provide information to customer service
- POD - Proof of Delivery & ASN - Advanced Shipping Notice
- Contact motor carriers as required
- File all shipping and receiving paperwork as necessary
- Enter packing slip information and containers into JDE
- Check Dove system to make sure tires or assemblies have been entered correctly
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: SP Sorter
- Inspect parts from assigned work cell for plastic or steel wheel damage, tire seated on wheel, soft tires or voids/pinches at splice, loose nuts, damaged tires, and bearing rotation defects
- Stamp acceptable parts and place it on the appropriate skid
- Place label, cardboard top, and tape down the container lid
- Verify art number in the tire matches the pallet identification part number
- Verify parts are free of cosmetic defects
- Verify operator number is on the inside of the tire
- Place cosmetic defects in appropriate box and acceptable tires on appropriate pallet
- Production report tires according to the pallet identification
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: SP Mold Cleaner
- Read production schedules to identify what molds need to be retrieved for use
- Inspect condition of molds (top and bottom molds) and accessories for any damage (dents, cracks, etc.) that lead to quality defects in the product
- Log the status of molds and place molds into the staging areas
- Inspect all incoming molds for damage and wear before being placed into storage
- Log molds requiring repairs into computer system
- Place molds in storage
- Clean molds as needed with appropriate cleaning procedure
- Prepare clean molds for disposition to storage
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: All Operations Support III Employees
The employee should have the following:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Applicants seeking GED: Enroll in our GED Ready program to help you get a GED while working. Manufacturing experience preferred but not required, candidate will be trained for this position in-house.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting production and quality goals.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid forklift or equipment license as needed or required.

- Ability to stoop, stand, squat, and move at a continuous pace for 8 hours/day.
- Pinch minimum 6 lbs.
- Grasp minimum 35 lbs.
- A full range of motion required: cervical, shoulders, elbow, wrist, fingers, hands, truck twist, and feet.
- Working Conditions: moderate noise, moving mechanical parts, static shock, burns, go up heights, odors, dust, protrusions, narrow access, good vision, and hearing.
- Any lifting over 70 lbs. must be completed with assistance through mechanical or individual support.
- Certain positions require forklift certification.
