A DAY IN THE LIFE OF SIMPLEA PRODUCE TEAM LEADER:
As the SimpLea Produce Team Leader, you provide training and support for the SimpLea Produce Team Members to help them reach their maximum potential in terms of personal and vocational growth, as well as their earning capacity. Your day would begin with driving a Charles Lea Center vehicle from your home to drive a route to pick up your employees from their homes. Once you arrive at the Charles Lea Center, you would follow your schedule for that day which could include overseeing planting seeds into small rock wool cubes for germination, or transplanting small plants into growing channels, or harvesting mature plants and packaging them for sale to commercial customers around the Upstate. Each day you would also help oversee monitoring of the growing environment (water, nutrients, air, etc.). In the process, you would be learning more about the science and business of the cutting edge of modern growing techniques. Also, you will observe, teach, and enforce a policy and mindset of "Safety First and Always' in all aspects of the job when using tools or operating equipment, handling chemicals, fertilizers, lifting or carrying or moving things, wearing proper clothing and personal protective equipment, and in every other way. Each Team Member must be trained and approved in advance to use a given tool or piece of equipment before they can operate it out of the line of sight of a Team Leader. As the Team Leader you will perform and teach other team members all aspect of the hydroponic growing process associated with the nutrient film technique (NFT) or other systems including but not limited to seeding, planting, transplanting, harvesting, packing, pruning, monitoring, and adjusting pH and EC levels and any other assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a background check upon hire
- High school diploma and/or GED with experience in greenhouse operations or horticulture strongly preferred, as is experience in training people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities
- Ability to work in diverse environment with focus of training and supporting people with intellectual and/or physical development disorders
- Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills
- Must be able to use standard measurements for mixing and using chemicals related to greenhouse
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
