Description
We are currently looking for a Full Time Chief of Pediatrics to join our Office of Under Secretary of Medical Staff and Quality team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center working .
Summary:
The Chief of Pediatrics is responsible for the organization and conduct of the members of the department. It is the Chief’s obligation and duty to maintain the standards of patient care as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws and CNDH policies and procedures through the members of his/her department.
- Attends and facilitates meetings as needed
- Monitors and evaluates clinically related activities of the department
- Recommends to the medical staff the criteria for clinical privileges that are relevant to the care provided in the department
- Recommends clinical privileges for each member of the department
- Ensures integration of the department or service into the primary functions of the organization
- Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of care, treatment and services
- Determines the qualifications and competence of affiliate staff who provide patient care, treatment and services
- Ensures orientation and continuing education of all persons in the medical staff department or service
- Recommends space and other resources needed by the department or service
- Cooperates with other departments of the CNDH and clinics to improve patient care, to help physicians in other departments improve their skills, and to participate in educational programs conducted by the Medical Staff
- Cooperates with the CNDH administration to establish and enforce rules and regulations for improved patient care
- Submits recommendations for a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care, treatment and services, on patient care procedures, on privileges of individual Medical Staff members in the department, and on the purchase of equipment and related issues
- Conducts periodic staff conferences and reports quarterly to the chief of staff any recommendations for improvement of patient care within the CNDH
- Collaborates with leadership to ensure that departmental performance meets or exceeds standards described in Medical Staff bylaws, policies and procedures, department policies and procedures, Joint Commission standards, and in other appropriate local and national standards
- Reviews and addresses complaints and/or grievances filed against the department's medical staff providers
- Serves as member of the Medical Executive Council and of Medical Staff Committees as assigned
- Reports to the department on findings of the Medical Executive Committee and its subordinate committees
- Leads the department in the design and implementation of continuous quality improvement efforts in appropriate clinical areas
- Enforces medical staff bylaws, policies and procedures within the department, and initiate investigations of clinical performance, when necessary
- Provides input on medical policies and make specific recommendations regarding his or her own department
- Implements any actions taken by the Medical Executive Committee or the Governing Board within the department
- Participates in the administration of the department, such as cooperating with nursing services and administration in matters affection patient care, including personnel, supplies, special regulations, standing orders, and techniques
- Practices and encourages good guest relations with patients, visitors, medical staff and other healthcare professionals
- Supports and communicates the CNDH mission and vision
- Completes, communicates, and distributes the department and emergency room on-call schedule in a timely manner
- Transmits to the Medical Executive Committee recommendations concerning appointment, reappointment and delineation of clinical privileges for all individuals in department
- Stops or prevents any procedure or therapy which is not, in their opinion, compatible with accepted medical practice or which would threaten the life of the patient
- Ensures all schedule coordination for patients
- Monitors and evaluates clinically and administratively related activities of the department
- Provides continuing surveillance of the professional performance of all individuals in the department who have delineated clinical privileges
- Assesses and recommends off-site sources for needed patient care, treatment and services not provided by the department or the organization
- Maintains quality control programs to continuously assess and improve the quality of care, treatment and services
- Ensures coordination and integration of interdepartmental and intradepartmental services
- Provides first class customer service - courteous and helpful to all internal and external customer types
- Answers questions in a courteous and professional manner
- Partners with internal and external services as needed to ensure appropriate referral is made
