We are currently looking for a Full Time Special Education Teacher to join our CW Special Education team located at the Ada Head Start working 8 : 00AM-5 : 00PM - Mo Tu We Th Fr.
Summary :
Responsible for professional educational work in instructing, modifying curriculum, providing accommodations, and implementing IEPs for early childhood students with special needs who have a range of disabilities.
Responsibilities :
- Collaborate with parents, staff and other professionals to develop the IEP through the eligibility process for each student assigned.
- Implement an instructional, therapeutic or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required (lesson plans aligned to IEP goals of each student.)
- Instruct students in a variety of academic and developmental areas such as music, art, language, cognitive skills, nutrition, health, culture and organized play using a variety of teaching methods.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of students through formal and informal testing.
- Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated by IEP.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the Chickasaw Nation mission statement.
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior and discipline through collaboration with the Special Education Manager, Site Manager / Supervisor, and behavior intervention staff.
- Consult with classroom teacher(s) regarding management of student's behavior according to the IEP and / or BIP.
- Consult with the Special Education Manager and Child Wellness team regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as required.
- Conducts parent conferences (4 per year) to report child's progress, and to determine the needs / individual goals of students and their families.
- Participates in scheduling and attending field trips while also encouraging parents to attend as needed.
- Attends parent and faculty meetings.
- Utilizes the computer child information tracking system as directed.
- Prepares and submits any reports required by the center supervisor / manager.
- Responsible for student's safety inside and outside of the building.
- Learns and instructs students in basic Chickasaw language vocabulary in partnership with Cultural Implementation program.
- Works with the center supervisor or manager to resolve parent grievances if needed.
- Immediately reports any potential health and well-being concerns of students (i.e., abuse, neglect, etc.) as required by law.
- Responsible for creating / submitting monthly newsletter and calendars to center supervisors / special education manager.
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curriculum as needed to assist special needs students in the regular classroom with assignments and / or tasks.
- Present subject matters / lessons according to guidelines established by the IEP.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher's aides and SNAP workers.
- Completes 20 hours of professional development per year.
- Keep informed of and complies with federal, state, Chickasaw Nation and school regulations and polices for special education.
- Maintain a log of parent contacts.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
