What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Assistant position at The Children's Center of Pittsburgh?
Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational activities and lesson plans
- Provide support to students in the classroom, including one-on-one assistance when needed
- Follow best practices for keeping children healthy and safe
- Follow all licensing and regulatory policies related to PA Department of Human Services (DHS), Keystone STARS and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
- Supervise children at all times including naptime, mealtime, and toileting times
- Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Assist with behavior management and promote positive behavior among students
- Collaborate with the lead teacher to assess student progress and provide feedback to parents/guardians
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment
Experience:
- Previous experience in education, such as working as a teaching assistant, nanny, or babysitter
- Familiarity with classroom management techniques and behavior management strategies
- Knowledge of childhood development and age-appropriate educational practices
- Experience working with children of various ages, including infants, toddlers, and preschoolers
- Understanding of special education needs and the ability to provide support to students with diverse learning abilities
Skills:
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents/guardians, and other staff members
- Patience and empathy when working with children who may have different learning styles or behavioral challenges
- Ability to follow directions from the lead teacher and adapt to changing classroom needs
- Organizational skills to assist with lesson planning, materials preparation, and maintaining student records
- Flexibility to work in a dynamic educational environment
