Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician to join our Portland team. As a Laboratory Technician, you are responsible for receiving, testing, analyzing, recording and reporting results of their tests.
Duties:
1. To provide technical and clerical support within scope of practice, to the TCC staff and providers by receiving and preparing specimens for examination/testing; performing and reporting limited analytical and quality control procedures; communicating test results to authorized recipients.
2. Performs specimen collection and phlebotomy.
3. Receive incoming specimens or patient specimens and log in according to department policies and work instructions.
4. Using Laboratory Quality Assurance policies or the lab’s SOPs, initiate problem solving in regards to missing, inadequate or compromised specimens or patient specimens.
5. Prepare specimen for testing on-site or for shipment to specific testing laboratory as necessary.
6. Under technical supervision, perform Moderate Complexity testing according to CLIA regulations.
7. Following Confidentiality policy, provide test results to authorized recipients by consulting either the electronic or paper information sources
8. Support accurate record keeping by preparing accession logs, initiating worksheets, creating and maintaining files.
9. Performs proficiency testing when assigned with accuracy.
10. Compile data for workload auditing, quality assurance monitors, research and patient history.
11. Perform quality control and maintain records of routine maintenance procedures specific to the work area.
12. Record any action taken to correct unacceptable quality control or equipment functions.
13. Conduct environmental safety checks where applicable.
14. Collect and package bio-hazardous and chemical waste for disposal.
15. Prepare and label reagents according to work instructions.
16. Perform all tasks according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
17. Perform accurate sample testing and reporting of patient test results.
18. Communicate needed updates, clarification, or changes to Technical Consultant/Lab Director.
19. See that all quality control is printed, reviewed, and filed in the appropriate binders for TC/LD review monthly.
20. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED.
Preferred: Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training program
WORK EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in phlebotomy and/or healthcare
LICENSE/ CERTTIFICATION: CPR/BLS.
Preferred: Phlebotomist (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Clinical knowledge and skills with the patient population of the clinical areas of the position.
- Knowledge of the evidence-based practice process.
- Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic medical record
- Capability to make accurate patient observations, communicate, and record them
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to blood collection
- Knowledge of safety practices
- Demonstrated skill with laboratory information systems
