Overview The Medical Coordinator plays a critical role in providing healthcare services to unaccompanied children (UC) at the Center for Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS). Reporting to the Program Manager, this position is responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of UC while they are in the program. The Medical Coordinator collaborates with program staff to address medical needs, provides education on health-related topics, and consults with external healthcare providers. The role also involves administering medications, conducting health screenings, and supporting UC in developing healthy habits.
Responsibilities
- Treat students for injuries and illnesses as needed.
- Perform hearing, vision, and other health screenings as required.
- Develop care plans for UC with ongoing medical conditions.
- Consult with the Education Manager, teachers, and other program staff regarding UC healthcare.
- Administer medication and ensure proper documentation.
- Educate UC and program staff on health procedures and best practices.
- Coordinate with outside healthcare providers regarding UC medical care.
- Educate UC on healthy habits, including nutrition and hygiene.
- Maintain accurate records of medical treatments and interventions.
- Perform related work as required.

Qualifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (required).
- Bilingual (required).
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) (preferred).
- Experience working with immigrant or refugee populations (preferred).
- Knowledge of child and adolescent mental health, including the impact of trauma and disrupted attachment (preferred).
Physical Demands
- Ability to move around the facility and respond quickly to medical incidents.
- Capability to conduct physical health screenings and provide hands-on care.
- Must be able to participate in and support health and safety drills.
