Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center, and at the 270 outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights.
Job Summary:
The Children’s Museum of Houston is seeking a current college student, current graduate student, or recent college graduate who is interested in serving as an intern and providing a wide range of database, research, administrative, and general support to CMH’s Development Special Events team. While this internship is unpaid, it will provide the opportunity to gain experience in and familiarity with areas such as fundraising, philanthropy, event planning, children’s programming, and the day-to-day operations of a non-profit organization with a national reach.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research potential business for auction item donations for the annual gala
- Solicit business for auction item donations by email and phone
- Assist the development staff in entering data into CMH’s donor database
- Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external use
- Assist the development staff in planning donor events and other activities
- Maintain donor files and other development materials
- Attend department and staff meetings
- Assist with mailings, filing, and special projects as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Education Required:
Current college student or recent college graduate
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong writing and research abilities
- MS Excel
- Ability to reach out to previous sponsors via phone and email
- Desire to learn more about fundraising and philanthropy
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Strong interpersonal skills
