Birth Registrar / Newborn Hearing Screener; this dual-role position involves accurately registering newborns in the hospital or clinic database and conducting newborn hearing screenings. You will play a critical role in ensuring accurate documentation of birth information and supporting early detection of hearing impairments, which is essential for the health and development of newborns.
Responsibilities
- Accurately record birth information into the hospital or clinic's electronic health records (EHR) system.
- Collect and verify necessary documentation, including parent and newborn identification, birth details (time, date, location), and medical history.
- Coordinate with healthcare staff, including doctors, nurses, and social workers, to ensure all birth-related information is properly documented and compliant with state and federal regulations.
- Assist parents with completing required forms and explain the registration process.
- Generate and maintain birth certificates and other official documents as required by state law.
- Handle any administrative tasks related to newborn registrations, such as correcting errors in documentation and following up with parents when necessary.
- Ensure confidentiality and protection of sensitive information.
- Perform newborn hearing screenings using OAE, ABR or Beraphone
- Ensure proper setup and calibration of screening equipment to ensure accurate results.
- Record and document screening results in the appropriate system, maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Inform parents or guardians of hearing screening results, providing explanations about the process and any next steps if further testing or referrals are required.
- Collaborate with audiologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to refer newborns who may require additional diagnostic evaluations.
- Provide emotional support to families, answering questions about the screening and helping them understand the importance of early detection.
- Monitor and maintain hearing screening equipment, ensuring it is functioning properly and reporting any issues.
- Follow up with families as needed for additional testing and ensure all newborns are screened within appropriate timeframes.
Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE : Knowledge of newborn hearing screening procedures and equipment (OAE, ABR) preferred.
