Position: Development and Engagement Director
Classification: Full-time
Reports to: Executive Director
The Development Director plays a critical role in advancing the mission of The Christian Mission by leading fundraising, donor engagement, and strategic development efforts. This individual will develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, cultivate donor relationships, oversee events, and manage grant applications to ensure the organization's financial sustainability and growth. Additionally, the Development Director will supervise and mentor the Development Department, including the Volunteer Coordinator and Development Associate, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:Fundraising Strategy and Execution- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan, including major gifts, individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and planned giving.
- Establish annual revenue goals and create strategies to achieve them.
- Monitor fundraising metrics, trends, and forecasts to ensure sustained growth.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and corporate donors.
- Maintain ongoing communication and engagement with existing donors.
- Develop donor recognition programs and communication strategies to foster loyalty and ongoing support.
- Research, identify, and apply for relevant grant opportunities.
- Manage the preparation and submission of compelling grant proposals.
- Ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements and deadlines.
- Lead the planning and execution of fundraising events, including donor receptions, galas, and community engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to maximize event success and donor participation.
- Directly supervise the Volunteer Coordinator and Development Associate, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a collaborative, results-oriented team environment.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Development Department, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Partner with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and volunteers to expand the organization's funding base.
- Represent the organization at external events and networking opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development.
- Proven track record of securing major gifts and managing donor relationships.
- Experience writing successful grant proposals and managing reporting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience managing and mentoring staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Master’s degree or CFRE certification is a plus.
- Experience working with CRM fundraising software (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce, or DonorPerfect).
- Familiarity with community-based nonprofit work.
- Marketing experience a plus
