What are the responsibilities and job description for the MTC Curriculum Developer - 28 hrs/week position at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
This position is central to the missionaries' role to 'Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. This role is an individual contributor that is responsible for and leads in assisting in curriculum and product development for the MTC and IMTCs.
Reports to the Mgr, Curriculum 2Works with curriculum design team to do the following:
- Helps modify and improve training for curriculum revisions
- Helps modify and improve training packages
- Mentors and leads curriculum developers throughout the development process
- Helps identify necessary improvements in teaching methodologies and curriculum materials
- Helps with development, direction, and pacing of learning curriculum content
- Approves changes made to learning curriculum content
- Assigns curriculum development tasks to employees
Required:
- Bachelors degree
- 2 years full-time experience with Second Language Teaching, ESL or TESOL OR Masters degree
- High aptitude for learning and successfully using new software applications
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in written form
- Ability to cooperate and to give and accept input from others
- Enjoy working in a dynamic, creative team environment
- Analytical, creative, detail-oriented, proactive, able to work well with ambiguity and under pressure
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Willingness to give and follow directions
- Proficiency in at least one non-native language
- Familiarity with a variety of second language teaching methods; open to new ideas
- To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.
Preferred:
- Thorough knowledge of current MTC curriculum
- Familiarity with the MTC language-learning program
- Very knowledgeable of complete MS Office Suite
- Proficiency in using Adobe InDesign, strongly preferred
- Coursework/experience in:
- Psychology or Instructional Design
- Experience teaching a second language in professional setting (i.e. university, high school, etc.)
- Well-developed philosophy of second language teaching and learning
- Coursework/experience in curriculum development
- Script writing/creative writing experience
