What are the responsibilities and job description for the MTC Interpreter - Samoan position at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
This position is central to the missionaries' role to 'Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.' Interpreters are support, entry level, individual contributors that provide interpretation for non-English speaking missionaries at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. Also may provide translation services for assigned projects and curriculum.
- Interprets for up to 25 different meetings that missionaries experience throughout the duration of their stay at the MTC
- Translates for assigned projects as determined by manager
- Participates in team training meetings
- Supports an effort to build and maintain an environment of increased harmony, trust, and good will within the department and the MTC.
- Other additional responsibilities as assigned by the Interpretation Coordinator.
- May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g. assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar)
- 1 year of experience speaking a second language
- Native or near native command of English and a second language, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and social context.
- Well-developed interpretation skills.
- High level of understanding of gospel terminology and usage, including “Preach My Gospel”.
- To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.
Preferred:
- 1 year of experience as an interpreter or translator
- Well-developed translation skills.
