Job Description:
The Financial Empowerment Coordinator will connect residents to resources and services to help them gain greater economic mobility and financial stability. The Financial Empowerment Coordinator will play a vital role in ensuring the sustainability and proper management of the Charleston Financial Empowerment Center, opening in 2025.
The FEC will utilize partner organizations to provide one-on-one counseling for residents around the tenants of Budgeting, Saving, Managing Debt, Building Credit, and Legacy Planning. This position will ensure compliance and fidelity to the operating model and ensure sustainability through partnerships and fundraising. This role requires a dynamic, committed individual with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for supporting people to build greater financial stability.
Examples of Duties:
- Assists the Director of ENS with the management and operations of the Financial Empowerment Center (FEC), including programmatic design, implementation, partnership building, evaluation, and reporting.
- Serves as the main point of contact for FEC financial counseling providers, program partners, local government leadership, and funders.
- Oversees the implementation of the FEC client management and database system; ensuring that data collected is complete and accurate.
- Works with FEC financial counseling provider(s) to solve operational issues, including programmatic integration with host sites and referral relationships with local government and nonprofit agencies.
- Ensures all FEC financial counseling provider(s) and program partners are trained on the FEC model and that they are compliant with the program model and other requirements.
- Works with FEC providers, program partners, and local government agencies to design and implement data sharing partnerships, as applicable.
- Coordinates site visits.
- Supports the marketing, outreach, and strategic referrals of clients to the FECs.
- Collects, aggregates, and prepares programming reports for funders.
- Participates in regular calls and semi-annual reviews with funders.
- Assists with the development and implementation of a sustainability plan.
- Facilitates the Bank on Charleston Coalition, which is focused on providing safe affordable bank accounts for unbanked and underbanked individuals. Maintains and grows the partners of the Bank on Coalition.
- Creates and facilitates financial literacy workshops for youth and adults focusing on developing financial skills and increasing knowledge of budgeting, saving, establishing credit, managing debt, and financial goal setting.
- Collects, maintains, and utilizes data as the basis for continuous program development and improvement.
- Researches additional grant and funding opportunities to support programmatic efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Planning or a related field; and 2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid South Carolina Driver’s License.
- Ability to function effectively within protocols and challenges of operating within a high-profile local government program.
- Experience in Salesforce or other CRM systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with large datasets and data management.
- Experience in financial education, asset building, or community development.
