What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Coordinator (911 Addressing) position at The City of Charleston, SC?
Summary
We are looking for a GIS Coordinator (911 Addressing) to join the City of Charleston's Information Technology Department! In this role, you will be responsible for the daily administrative and operational functions of the City’s 911 addressing as well as coordinating all 911 address activities with local agencies.
Examples of Duties
- Reviews, approves, and assigns all new addresses and change of address requests within the City.
- Updates and maintains addressing related layers within the GIS Enterprise Geodatabase using ESRI’s ArcGIS.
- Validates and manipulates address data using table joins, queries, and field calculations.
- Coordinates the naming of new streets within the City with Charleston County and Berkeley County.
- Reviews existing City addresses for E-911 and addressing standards compliance, conducting field verifications and making recommendations for address changes.
- Coordinates with Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch and Berkeley County Addressing to ensure data consistency and accuracy and to research reported addressing problems.
- Communicates address assignments and changes with County departments, utilities, the US Postal Service, City officials, and other parties.
- Participates in the plan review process, reviewing and coordinating addressing plans with developers, providing guidance with addressing issues, and attending weekly plan review meetings.
- Conducts research that involves analyzing recorded documents, deeds, land surveys, source maps, photographs, and other records.
- Scans and documents plats, addressing plans, and other documents in the GIS document management system.
- Creates high quality maps and related documents and conduct GIS analysis.
- Establishes relationships with partners at state, county, and local levels, as well as private industry and non-governmental organizations.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings, maintaining awareness of new trends and developments in the field of GIS and mapping technologies.
- Performs other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Thorough knowledge of ArcGIS and Microsoft Office including Access.
- Understanding of SQL, Python, ArcGIS Model builder or other spatial data processing tools preferred.
