Job Description:
This role will assist in the maintenance of the City's public trees in an aesthetically pleasing and safe manner, and lead the crew in the absence of the Crew Leader.
Examples of Duties:
- Receives instruction and training in proper safety precautions, use of tools, etc. required in maintenance.
- Instructs other members of crews in proper operational procedures and techniques.
- Assists the Crew Leader in coordinating the tasks to be performed by the crew; supervises the crew in the absence of the Crew Leader.
- Requisition or purchase supplies and equipment.
- Prunes limbs from tree using chain saws, handsaws, and shears.
- Removes dead and/or hazardous trees.
- Grinds limbs with high speed branch/limb clipper.
- Controls traffic as needed around work-site.
- Performs emergency service before or after normal working hours.
- Analyzes and evaluates maintenance needs and tree conditions.
- Services and maintains chain saws, chippers, and stump grinder.
- Plants trees and shrubs.
- Loads limbs onto the bed of a truck.
- Hangs banners for special events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Two years of related experience
- High school diploma/GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Commercial South Carolina Class B Driver's Permit within 3 months and Commercial Class B Driver’s License within 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist
Other Necessary Requirements:
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
