What are the responsibilities and job description for the Horticulture Groundskeeper position at The City of Emporia?
Under the supervision of the Horticulturist, the Horticulture Groundskeeper will perform manual tasks and requires the ability to do heavy physical labor efficiently.
This is a part time position with duties that include: growing, planting, maintaining trees, shrubs, flowers in the City zoo, parks, greenhouse and other property; mowing, weeding, pesticide application and other maintenance of turf on City properties; collection of trash and other materials in parks and other public use areas; performance of various custodial and maintenance tasks on zoo and park structures; other duties as assigned.
Assists in the Maintenance and repair of mowers, equipment, and buildings; Assists in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems; Plants trees, annual, perennial and shrubs following guidelines and drawings; Applies fertilizers and pesticides; Prunes, wraps, stakes, and removes trees; Waters plants and trees; Spreads lawn seed and cover; Mows and edges grass areas and removes trees; Operates a variety of equipment such as tractors, tillers, and loaders; Operates a variety of hand power and non-power tools; Cleans restrooms in the park and zoo area; Maintains playground equipment; Assists in construction and maintenance projects
This is an entry-level position and prior experience is not required. The employee in this position is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after six months in the position. High school diploma or GED. Valid Kansas driver's license required. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to operate a tractor, mowers, power tools, and hand tools.

Pay: $14.20 - $15.68 per hour
