Job Summary
The position of Water Billing Customer Service Clerk involves extensive office work in utility billing, account maintenance, reconciling, collections, bankruptcy, electronic filing, payment processing, customer service, AR balancing, troubleshooting, and assistance with administrative tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires an individual who possesses great interpersonal skills, and a strong background in cash balancing and reconciliation to maintain appropriate revenue and water loss percentages. As well as the ability to exercise and discern good judgment, the ability to work in difficult situations, and the ability to resolve conflict peacefully according to department and or city policies & procedures.
Additionally, a Water Billing Clerk performs data processing work, operates a computer billing and collection system for water and sewer services, actively works accounts in collections, performs necessary proceedings concerning accounts under bankruptcy, and provides exceptional customer service.

The noise level in the work environment is above average, with background noise from phone calls, extensive customer conversations, drive-thru bells, and utility billing printers. This position is not remote and working office hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- 2 years in Administrative Assistance preferred.
- 2 years in Cash Balancing/AR Recording required.
- Experience in Collections and Bankruptcy preferred.
- Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or the ability to obtain one before hire date
- Strong computer skills
- Advance Microsoft Word and Excel abilities
- General knowledge of utility billing
- Advance ability to 10-key
- Maintain and balance multiple cash drawers
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish successful working relationships
- Ability to work under pressure and with frequent interruptions while accomplishing all tasks
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to work with disgruntled or challenging customers
