Position Objectives:

General Statement of Duties: Performs retail sales work assisting customers locate and purchase store merchandise; and performs related duties as required.

Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Liquor Store Manager.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Duties and Responsibilities:

TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMEDThe listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Duties may vary somewhat from position to position within a class.

• • Operates cash register in selling liquor store merchandise; codes sales category; makes change; packages and may carry out heavy merchandise for customers; reconciles receipts at the end of the day.
• • Assists customers in selecting merchandise; advises or suggests products as requested; verifies age identification of customers; maintains surveillance for shoplifting prevention.
• • Stocks shelves and coolers with merchandise; dusts and cleans shelves; prepares and maintains displays.
• Marks bottles and other merchandise with sales prices.
• May perform daily posting of receipts and merchandise category sales.
• Performs routine cleaning work.
• Performs other work duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• • Considerable knowledge of proper methods of customer service in liquor store.
• Working knowledge of the various brands and types of liquors or ability to acquire such knowledge in a reasonable period of time.
• Working knowledge of liquor store stocking and sales techniques.
• • Considerable skill in the operation of a cash register and in making accurate change.
• • Considerable ability to see customers, merchandise, and prices.
• • Considerable ability to hear customers.
• • Considerable ability to use large motor skills to lift and carry heavy merchandise weighing up to 80 pounds or more.
• • Considerable ability to stand, bend, crouch, stoop, and stretch repetitively and for long periods.
• • Considerable ability to operate a telephone, and to work in a cooler or outside, sometimes in extreme temperatures.
• Working ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers, and the general public.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
Desirable Qualifications: Experience in retail sales, preferable in a liquor store or bar.
