Under general supervision, lifeguards assist in ensuring customer satisfaction and safety for employees and visitors to the Landa Park Aquatic Complex and City Tube Chute.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Assists in ensuring the delivery of high quality and consistent aquatic programs and services to the community.
- Serves as lifeguard and monitors the safety of aquatic facility patrons; participates in enforcing safety policies and procedures; initiates rescues, administers First Aid and/or CPR.
- Attending weekly in-service training
- Maintaining lifesaving and rescue skills at rescue ready levels throughout duration of employment
- Assists in the opening and closing of the aquatic facilities
- Prepares and assists in maintaining the City Tube Chute and Landa Park Aquatic Complex (LPAC) facilities, including but not limited to cleaning pool, deck area and rest rooms, vacuuming, sweeping, removing trash and performing other janitorial duties in a safe condition and to meet community needs; must be in compliance with the City’s strategic objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws.
- Assists in promoting departmental programs and city-wide special events coordination and setup.
- May serve as swimming instructor or Jr Lifeguard Camp Instructor
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:
Education and Experience:
- Must be fifteen (15) years of age; AND one (1) year customer service/public interaction experience is preferred.
- Must possess or be able to obtain within two (2) weeks of employment: American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard/First Aid certification, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification, and Oxygen Administration certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Requirements
Required Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of customer service.
- Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
- Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
- Effective, clear and concise communication.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, wet surfaces, pool maintenance equipment, infectious diseases and blood borne pathogens; is subject to sitting, standing, bending and reaching for extended periods of time; and must be able to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to work irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays, early mornings and late evenings.
- May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
