Description

The Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department - Recreation Division, is currently hiring for the following positions:

Job Titles Salary Ranges
Recreation Specialist I    $12.00 - $13.25 per hour / DOQ
Recreation Specialist II  $13.00 - $15.32 per hour / DOQ
Recreation Specialist III  $15.00 - $17.80 per hour / DOQ

 

These are seasonal, part-time positions with varying hours to include evenings, weekends and holidays. 

 

The positions may be assigned to work in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Facility Attendant
  • Lifelong Learning Assistant (Staffing Season varies based upon needs)
  • Summer Camp (Staffing Season May - August)
  • Program Coordinator

 

Work locations may include, but are not limited to:
  • Boyd Hill Recreation Center
  • Emmett Scott Recreation Center
  • Fewell Park Recreation Center
  • Miracle Park
  • Northside Recreation Center
  • Etc.

 

Minimum Training & Experience:
Valid Driver's License (required for some positions)

 

Essential Job Functions:
Types of duties include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Assists and/or is responsible for opening and closing of parks and facilities.
  2. Complete daily reports, work requests, and incident reports as required.
  3. Observes safety rules to maintain safe parks and facilities.
  4. May serve as a work shift lead to support parks and facility daily operations including but not exclusive to safety, programs, concessions, admissions, or special events as needed to meet the goals of the department.
  5. Supports Program Coordinator with daily operating tasks.
  6. Communicates effectively and professionally with program participants, community members and colleagues.
  7. Assists with administrative responsibilities as assigned.
  8. Assists with setup and breakdown of facility in preparation for programming.
  9. Represents the program positively and professionally throughout the community.
  10. Keep accurate incident logs.
  11. Practice good judgment by informing immediate supervisors of any unforeseen circumstances and reacting appropriately.
  12. Participates in cross training opportunities.
  13. Performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

 

Additional information Lifelong Learning:

  • The purpose of this position within the organization is to assist a Program Coordinator with Lifelong Learning in the City of Rock Hill. Lifelong Learning @ Rock Hill is a recreational learning program for adults age 50 . This class works under direct supervision according to set procedures. Exceptional communication skills are preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other web-based programs and systems is essential. This position is highly interactive and requires a candidate who enjoys interacting with the community on a daily basis.

 

Additional duties Miracle Park:

  • Provide assistance and support to Miracle Park’s daily operations including but not exclusive to the knowledge of PRT programs/services – especially those available at Miracle Park; park equipment safe use requirements, special recreation events or programs, knowledge/assistance of concessions/admissions protocols.

 

Additional duties Summer Camps:

  • Valid First Aid and Child CPR Certifications or the ability to become certified before the beginning of camp.
  • Six months of experience working with groups of children ages 6 – 11 years.
  • Provide a fun and safe environment, look after the well-being of campers, and adhere to the summer camp schedule.
  • Prepare, lead, and supervise play and activities indoors and outdoors that provide appropriate social interactions.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service, professionalism, creativity, and organizational skills throughout each day of camp.
  • Comply with all health and safety procedures, including pool safety.
  • Work with other counselors to ensure quality service and a positive camp environment.
  • Establish and maintain great relationships with the campers and their parents.
  • Convey a professional image through a positive attitude and proper attire.
  • Interact with children in a friendly manner by playing games, teaching skills, etc.
  • Assist with bathroom monitoring, meals, and snacks.
  • Recommend new ideas for toys, programs, supplies and promotions.
  • Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed.
  • Resolve disputes between children when necessary.
  • Discipline by using verbal redirection, physical removal, and time out as appropriate.

 

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work outside during the hot summer season.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (either verbally or in writing) significant park events or problems to supervision.
  • Ability to initiate a positive social interaction and demonstrate appropriate customer service skills.
  • Ability to articulate instructions effectively.
  • Ability to assist with custodial duties and minor maintenance needs.
  • Must be a team player who can develop strong and positive working relationships with all staff.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.  Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills. 
  • Work is performed on-site the incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job.
