The City of Zanesville is now accepting applications for the position of Associate Planner. This posting is open for consideration to city employees and the general public that meet the requirements of the position.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Planning or planning-related field.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS
Under direction, administers City’s planning and zoning code.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for disabled persons, covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act, in accordance with its requirements.
- Administers the City’s planning and zoning code. Reviews, completes, and processes zoning applications involving all private property in the City, inspects properties, reviews zoning violation complaints, determines compliance with planning and zoning code, mediates conflicts, and enforces regulations.
- Provides support to the Planning and Zoning Administrator in preparing materials for the various Departmental Boards and Commissions. When assigned by Director, attends meetings and serves as staff to Boards and Commissions.
- Provides planning recommendations for updates to City’s plans and codes.
- Researches and analyzes data utilized in the preparation of documentation required to be submitted with grant applications. Aids in administering grants received by the City.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates in coordination and delivery of the strategic planning process for programs and initiatives of the department.
Participates in development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
Represents the department at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and taskforces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Intern, when assigned.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED
General office equipment, personal vehicle.
CONTACTS WITH OTHERS
City Code Enforcement, County Building Department, contractors, developers, architects, real estate agents and appraisers, City departments and divisions, State development officials, City officials, Clerk of Council, Zanesville Downtown Association, business representatives, general public.

Preliminary development proposals prior to an application being filed that are not yet public record.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Good office working conditions with occasional exposure to varying other conditions when visiting property.
