Reporting to the Deputy Director of Human Resources, the HR Coordinator for Adjunct Operations performs functions related to employment, on-boarding, workload and payroll actions for part-time teaching and non-teaching instructional staff, in accordance with contractual guidelines.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coordinate all personnel actions for Teaching and Non-Teaching Adjunct population, including onboarding/orientation, to separation for 3 Business Units.
- Process all personnel actions in CUNYfirst; maintains CUNYfirst records; performs audits.
- Monitors and acts accordingly on FICA and Sprintax matters.
- Ensures implementation of all policies/procedures pertaining to part-time instructional/non-instructional staff.
- Tracks and monitors workloads and observations to ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreement; advises on warranted changes.
- Provides Payroll with reporting and new hire documentation, i.e. appointment forms, tax forms, direct deposit application, etc.
- Monitors I-9 Employment Verification for resident and non-resident part-time Teaching/Non-teaching Adjuncts.
- Coordinates the collection of required on-boarding documents for New Adjunct faculty in compliance with laws, policies and practices; orchestrates background checks, degree verifications, etc.
- Supervises unit staff; evaluates performance and facilitates development and/or corrective action(s).
- May assist with Adjunct Health Insurance inquiries, and support related processing actions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
All full-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 70% of their work time. This is equivalent to 7 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 7 days in person, 3 days remote). This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required.
A preferred candidate should have:
- Two (2) years of administrative experience with general knowledge of HR functions (e.g. onboarding, collective bargaining agreements, and compliance).
- Experience entering data in CUNYfirst’s HR module preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize work.
- Ability to interpret, apply and explain polices including state and federal regulations, labor contracts, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior administrators, faculty and staff.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position.

- Prepares and executes various personnel transactions involving employee recordkeeping, processing of new hires, pay administration, and recruiting
- Maintains an understanding of policies, procedures, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements relevant to human resources
- Organizes and processes employee information; develops and maintains reports and queries; assures data accuracy and completeness
- Responds to requests for information; troubleshoots issues, follows up and responds to employee inquiries
- Assists HR managers with employee communications of all kinds; may prepare materials, conduct orientation sessions, or update web pages
- Performs related duties as assigned.
