Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Reporting to the Admissions Specialist, the Admissions Coordinator will support the day-to-day activities of the Transfer Credit and Records Processing units.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Reporting to the Admissions Specialist, the Admissions Coordinator will support the day-to-day activities of the Transfer Credit and Records Processing units.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist with recruitment and registration of transfer students;
- Assist with reviewing of transfer applications;
- Evaluate past credits earned by transfer students and re-admits as needed;
- Coordinate the application process via CUNYfirst, which includes data entry of new admissions applications info CUNYfirst
- Update data in CUNYfirst, and assist in the maintenance of freshman and transfer student files;
- Compile and provide statistical information about transfer students;
- Serve as a resource to students at workshops, advisement, registration; and at the welcome desk in Admissions
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other department staff, students and the public.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of transfer credit practices preferred.
- Specialization in computerized Access database.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with CUNYfirst system.
- Knowledge of on-line equivalency systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Coordinates efforts of admissions and/or enrollment offices.
- Coordinates workshops, intake screenings, interviews and orientations for new students
- Counsels prospective applicants on requirements and standards and provides general information on programs and services in person or by telephone, e-mail or letter; conducts follow up as needed
- Assists in conducting open house sessions and orientations, including group sessions and programs at high schools and in the community at large
- Assists with day-to-day administration and an admissions or enrollment office, including scheduling and preparing and distributing materials
- Represents the Admission Office to the college's internal and external communities as directed
- Maintains and updates program databases, lists and files to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Performs related duties as assigned.
