The Department of Middle and High School Education (MHSE) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in English Education.
The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate one of the Childhood teacher education programs in the department; teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses using multiple modalities (online and hybrid) in multiple areas of childhood education with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM); supervise teacher candidates in schools, participate in program development and accreditation, as well as in recruitment and advisement of undergraduate and graduate teacher education candidates, provide service to the department, school, and college. The teaching workload is 18 hours per academic year.
The School of Education prepares educators, school leaders, and school counselors, who go on to careers in both public and private institutions. Programs are offered in a variety of specializations including Advanced and Dual Certificates in Special Education and Bilingual Education, School Building Leadership, Literacy, and TESOL.
The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education houses a variety of outstanding and nationally accredited graduate degree programs, with each culminating in a master’s degree or an advanced certificate, and most leading to New York State Certification. The department maintains strong relationships with regional schools through a Professional Development network.
Our faculty are committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching and are recognized for their work with Bronx and urban schools, districts, nonprofits and other community organizations, and strive to provide transformational learning experiences for our graduate students. They are dedicated to anti-racist practices and uplifting the community. They are experienced in meeting the needs of adult learners and are dedicated to mentoring, motivating, and supporting our graduate students through consistent advisement, engaging instruction, continuous program improvement, and career placement.

Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience in teaching in educational settings that serve teachers and children.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Experience in undergraduate and/or graduate-level teaching, through in-person, hybrid, and online modalities.
- Experience and ability to teach courses in one or more of the STEAM areas.
Preference will be given to the candidate who has:
- demonstrated ability in teaching college-level courses in one of the disciplines of Childhood (1st- 6th grade) teaching methods, in particular, STEAM;
- teaching experience in diverse childhood settings
- demonstrated commitment to social justice, multi-modal learning, anti-racist pedagogies, multilingualism, and culturally and linguistically responsive and sustaining pedagogy
- demonstrated a strong research agenda
- demonstrated ability to collaborate with educators and community members
- Ability to speak more than one language.
