Summary of Position : The Development Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of work that contributes to the implementation of key goals and deliverables for the Equity Fund’s development (fundraising) and strategic partnership goals and workstreams. This includes meeting deliverables related to cultivating and managing new and existing funder relationships, raising resources, and expanding existing philanthropic partnerships.

Position Responsibilities :

Strategic Portfolio Management and Relationship Stewardship (30%)

Lead the implementation of a multi-year strategy to expand and deepen philanthropic partnerships, supporting the Equity Fund’s strategic partnership and development goals.

Manage a diverse portfolio of philanthropic partnerships, including both existing funders and new / prospective donors, for the Equity Fund’s C3 and Action Fund’s C4 entities, including both existing funders and prospective donors.

Collaborate with the Vice President of Development and senior development leaders to design and execute annual and multi-year plans that foster relationships with existing funders and cultivate new national partnerships.

Build and maintain strong, engaged, and positive relationships with funders in your portfolio through strategic, informed, and proactive stewardship.

Oversee internal preparation, develop agendas, and ensure scheduling for all meetings with funders, adhering to regular touchpoints (weekly, monthly, quarterly).

Grant Writing and Reporting (20%)

Lead the development and writing of grant proposals, reports, executive summaries, and customized briefs for philanthropic partners.

Ensure all funding proposals and grant reports are submitted on time and meet high-quality standards.

Data and Revenue Management (15%)

Maintain meticulous records in Salesforce CRM, regularly updating prospects, deliverables, and revenue projections for your portfolio.

Track revenue and deliverable compliance, ensuring adherence to organizational protocols and grant agreement requirements.

Funder Engagement and Strategic Outreach (15%)

Contribute to and implement year-round funder engagement strategies, including funder briefings, newsletters, impact reports, and convenings / events.

Collaborate with the Strategic Partnerships team and Equity Fund staff to design and execute innovative approaches that motivate renewed and increased philanthropic investments.

Content Development (10%)

Develop compelling and tailored content for reports, proposals, funder engagement materials, and other collateral to effectively communicate the Equity Fund’s mission, impact, and strategic priorities.

Fundraising Strategy and Innovation (5%)

Design and implement a range of strategies—including relational, communication-based, and event-driven approaches—that inspire new and sustained philanthropic partnerships with the Equity Fund.

Identify and propose creative ideas to enhance funder engagement and build long-term donor relationships.

Other Duties (5%)

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education :

Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the position’s essential functions.

Experience and Skills :

5 years of professional experience in fundraising and development, with demonstrated expertise in funder portfolio management and strengths in grant writing and strategic case development.

Exceptional interpersonal, team collaboration, and written communication skills.

Existing track record developing high-quality written materials, including grant proposals, progress reports, memos, and other strategic collateral.

Demonstrated ability to gather impact data, stories, and strategic information to write case materials that effectively convey the Equity Fund’s mission impact and commitment to racial and economic justice, climate, and clean energy equity.

Proven ability to help develop intense cultivation, engagement, and learning opportunities for prospective and current funders, working in partnership with staff and leadership.

Knowledge of philanthropy for climate / clean energy and racial and economic justice preferred.

Knowledge of best practices for developing strategic and values-aligned philanthropic partnerships and stewarding donor relationships is preferred.

Existing track record of meeting and exceeding annual fund development or fundraising goals including through funder portfolio management.

Ability to travel domestically up to 15% annually to offsite meetings and other Equity Fund events.

Compensation : The base pay range for this position is $100,000-$125,000, based on the cost of labor in the geographical market. New hires are typically hired into the middle portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in the range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
