What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equestrian Center Intern position at The Club at Las Campana?
Scope:
Increase knowledge through practical, hands on learning in all areas of the equestrian center. Work closely with staff and management in the care, cleaning, grooming, conditioning, and training of horses for specific tasks. Accompany or lead/teach trail rides, camps, and lessons (both mounted and un-mounted) in English and/or Western disciplines. Clean, care for, and inventory/organize tack and equipment. Work with administrative staff filing, billing, program enrichment, etc. as required. *The Club at Las Campanas Equestrian Center, a.k.a. LCEC, hereinafter.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the care, custody, and training of LCEC horses.
- Supervise Western and English lessons to both boarders and non-boarders.
- Help ensure stables and arenas are kept clean at all times, including special events.
- Assist in the care of injured or ill horses
- Assist the LCEC staff in making sure the horses stabled at the LCEC receive the highest level of care, including feeding and turn-out done with care and kindness.
- Ensure the LCEC provides a safe environment for both members and their horses.
- Make a concentrated effort to expand knowledge base about specifics of the job.
- Assist with the promotions of LCEC, including but not limited to appearances at special events, photo shoots, lay-outs, and marketing materials.
- Ensure quality standards for public relations are maintained with members, guests, and the local community.
- Run errands for LCEC business around Santa Fe as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service to the members and their family and guests.
- Assist in keeping the highest level of excellence in all programs for both children and adults at the LCEC.
- Ensure that professional standards are adhered to.
- Help all members feel at home and welcomed at the LCEC.
- Handle member’s questions and concerns professionally and courteously.
Note: Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Relationships:
Internal: All Equestrian Center Staff and other Departments at the Club : For effective communication.
External: Members/Guests: To provide excellent service.
Horses: Excellent care, custody, and instruction at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- High level of riding, training and instructional expertise required.
- High level of teaching skills required.
- Knowledge of care of horses, equipment, tack, the use and application of varied tack, supplies and machinery required.
Certification and/or License Requirement:
- Valid state driver’s license and clean MVR
- CPR certification or ability to obltain
Skills:
- Must possess excellent oral and interpersonal skills.
- High level of confidence.
- Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions as well as communicate clear instructions.
- Must possess the ability to interact with members and staff on all levels in a professional, positive, and friendly manner.
- Working knowledge of safety around members, guests, students, and horses.
- Professional standard of excellence of horse care required.
- Position requires a highly professional demeanor with members, guests and staff, adaptability, flexibility, and adherence to a strict level of confidentiality.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to work around animals.
Working Conditions:
- Flexibility is required in working nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Required to work in a fast paced environment.
Physical/Cognitive Activities:
- Requires ability to bend, stoop, walk, lift, and carry items up to 50 pounds.
- Able to work around animals.

- Requires working in an outdoor environment with fluctuating temperatures.
